Statement on Venezuela
January 5, 2026
We express our solidarity with the people of Venezuela, and we send our condolences to the people of Venezuela, Cuba and all other nationalities that were killed in this attack.
We condemn in no uncertain terms the attack on Venezuela by the United States, and the abduction of President Maduro and his wife by US forces. The Trump administration is hiding behind the argument that this is not an act of war but a “law enforcement” operation and therefor did not require a declaration of war by Congress as is mandated in the Constitution.
Furthermore, this attack is a flagrant violation of both US and international laws and must be condemned in the strongest possible way. It is obvious that the Trump administration decided to violently infringe upon the sovereignty of Venezuela due to the county’s oil reserves and to punish the people of Venezuela and the Maduro government for their support for the liberation of Palestine from the Zionist regime.
One must ask why President Trump decided to pardon Juan Orlando Hernández, the former president of Honduras, and why the US is not pursuing the arrest of Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu for whom there is a warrant issued by the International Criminal Court. While it is unclear what ties Trump has to the former president of Honduras, the answer regarding Netanyahu is simple: Trump and his administration are complicit in the Zionist crimes of the Zionist regime against the Palestinian people, and they support those crimes wholeheartedly.
Even as the US imposes sanctions on Cuba, Venezuela, Iran and threatens to impose them on other states, and as the US continues to threatens these and other states with military action, we call for the immediate and unconditional release of the President of Venezuela and we call on the international community to ensure that such acts are not repeated.
